Another Connection

Another Connection

Putting pins in a map

I draw the lines

Connecting me to those I love

And those I’ve just met.

A meaningful conversation

An open invitation

I’m connected to another

I make my way around the world

Hoping to make a difference

Realizing the difference I am making

Is in the connections I am making

With all the people in my life.

Another person

Another pin

To show me all the ones I’ve met,

All those who have touched me

Changed me in

A moment of connection.

Held together with an invisible thread,

That stretches across the globe

And beyond.

I thrive in those relations.

In the eyes of another

I see the truth

The shared joy

Shared pain.

The connection as our eyes meet

Two paths crossing

For a moment.

Worlds of difference fall away

We are together in our

Shared existence.

Working, laughing

Being side by side for

A short while

Breaks down barriers

Forging connections,

In kindness and service of others.

I see myself reflected back

Through another person

In that reflection I see

What this is really all about

Experiences, kindness, food,

As my work goes on, I realize more and more that human connection is so important. That it can really change things in unimaginable ways. I learn so much about myself and about life just from spending time with other people. I am amazed day by day by the people I have the honor of working with and being around.

What do you learn from others?

Human connection

Lifts me up,

A room full of people that I

Care about

Fills me with such excitement.

Warmth settles in my soul

Opening myself to these people

Around me.

Longing to be a better person

To be worthy of such company.

Inspired by their kindness

Generosity and honesty.

I am lifted in myself

More confident and capable

Surrounded by so much love.

This is what life is all about,

Connection real and deep

With another

To share, to collaborate,

Just to be

Is what I am here to do.

Connections set the tone,

Help propel me forward and keep me afloat.

Including connection to myself

And the natural world.

Without connecting to myself

I can’t hope to ever connect with one beyond me.

People, love

Make life worth it,

Make the tough times bearable.

I have been so incredibly fortunate the last month that I have met and made connections with so many amazing people. They inspired this poem.

Who has inspired you?

Joyful to Vulnerable and Back

Joyful to Vulnerable and Back

In our humanity we find common ground.

In our failings and our pain

We find a shared existence.

Vulnerability brings

Us together in ways

Joy never could.

Sharing joy is easy

Risk is not involved

But sharing vulnerability

Is the epitome of risk.

In that risk

We connect to the deepest

Truest pieces of who we are.

In order to truly connect with each other

We must be willing to share

Joy and vulnerability.

As two sides of the same coin

They don’t work

Effectively when separated.

If we stick with it

Go with the flow of life

Walking through experience together

With an open mind and heart

We will walk

Through joy to vulnerability

And back.

Vulnerability has the power to connect people in amazing ways if we can be open to it.

When have you felt connected to others through vulnerability?
